Discover our other products too astronomical telescopes in our range.

Dock, start up and inspect

Place the phone in the StarSense dock; it takes about two minutes to align it with the telescope’s optics. The app then displays a list of the objects currently visible. Once an object has been selected, the arrows on the screen guide you in moving the telescope, and the crosshairs turn green when the object is in the eyepiece.

Identification technology familiar from satellites

StarSense Sky Recognition technology does not rely solely on the phone’s gyroscopes and accelerometers. The LISA algorithm (Lost in Space Algorithm), similar to those used by satellites for orientation in orbit, compares the constellations detected by the phone’s camera with the app’s database and accurately determines the direction of the telescope.

From the city sky to dark observation sites

Even in a city with light pollution, you can see, for example, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula and binary stars. In a darker location, the number of observable objects increases, and the whole set is easy to take with you on excursions.

Main features

The StarSense Explorer app tracks the telescope’s orientation in real time and guides it to the selected target using the arrows on the screen.

It takes about two minutes to align the phone with the telescope’s optics.

Compatible with the iPhone 6 and later models, as well as most Android 7.1.2 devices manufactured from 2016 onwards.

The slow-motion control on the altazimuth mount makes it easier to align the mount precisely and track an object as it moves across the sky.

Fully coated optics improve light transmission and bring out more detail.

Two eyepieces offer 40x and 100x magnification, from wide-angle views to planetary observation.

The StarPointer red-dot sight can also be used during the day or without an app.

The full-height tripod accessory tray keeps the eyepieces organised during observations.

Technical specifications

Type of telescope: reflecting telescope

Lens diameter: 114 mm

Focal length: 1000 mm

Aperture ratio: f/9

Optical coating: Al/SiO₂

Resolving power (Rayleigh): 1.22 arcseconds

Resolving power (Dawes): 1.02 arcseconds

Eyepiece 1: 25 mm, 40x

Eyepiece 2: 10 mm, 100x

Mounting type of the tripod: altazimuth

Maximum height: 1321 mm

Weight: 4,710 g

View all Celestron products.

The Celestron StarSense Explorer LT114AZ is a telescope suitable for beginners, which locates celestial objects using a smartphone and the StarSense Explorer app. The app guides you to the object with arrows and alerts you when the object is visible through the eyepiece.
