Lencarta Folding Beauty Dish Assembly

The Lencarta foldable beauty dish is quick to assemble, taking only seconds to set up. Just push the needles into place and you're done. Unlike some similar competing products, the sticks are made of metal and are virtually indestructible. The fabric material is also special, it's much thicker and denser than the others, increasing the durability of the product and preventing light leakage.

There are 16 support poles (usually the structure is implemented with eight) and this is essential for good light quality, as fewer would produce large latent areas and light would be scattered everywhere but in the right place.

The Lencarta foldable beauty dish is realised in a true parabolic design, and is much more light efficient than a structure with only 8 poles. There is also a deflector inside that not only reduces hotspots but is also the right size and in the right place to take full advantage of the parabolic shape. Again, this is not a given in other manufacturers' products. The deflector can be turned in seconds. When rotated, it changes the focus point which allows the deflector to be used effectively at multiple distances, and the light effect is also slightly different.

It comes with an inner diffuser with a double-thick central area. When using the diffuser the effect of the beauty dish is again slightly different. The external diffuser is also included in the package, when you use it the beauty dish turns into a soft box.

The quality of the diffusers is very high, the softening is very good. When using diffusers, the use of a deflector is optional, and you can achieve a different effect with it too.

The honeycomb is also delivered in a package, 4x4x4cm. When used with a diffuser you can concentrate the light spread very effectively. The effect is like using a honeycombed softbox, adding to the beauty dish's range of uses. With the grid, you can limit the light to 41 degrees. All this is packed in a handy zip bag.

The pictures show the Bowens speedring bayonet but speedrings from many other manufacturers are also available if required.

Options

This beauty dish has a white or silver interior and is available in 60, 80cm and 120cm sizes. The 120cm version is available in white only.

Both the white and silver beauty dish produce the same type of light, which accentuates the shape of the face beautifully. The silver version has a more contrasting effect than the white version, so if the model has perfect bone structure and skin, the silver version will give a more dramatic look. The white version is more forgiving of imperfections.

Whichever colour is used, the effect is more dramatic if a honeycomb is used, and less dramatic if a diffuser is used. And a third option is to use both honeycomb and diffuser at the same time.
