Description
Nikon Coolpix P950 is a new ”budget-friendly” megazoom for people who want a camera that can do it all. If photography itself isn’t your main interest, you can also use the camera as a handy telescope – one that’s hard to find a rival for. With a staggering 35mm equivalent focal length range of 24–2000mm (83x), it offers limitless possibilities for a variety of angles. Even with such an extreme focal length range, the lens still boasts an f/2.8 aperture at the wide end and a reasonable f/5.6 at the telephoto end. The image stabiliser has also been made more effective, offering up to 5x vibration reduction. The camera can be operated via a clear, large OLED viewfinder or a tilting LCD screen.
Nikon’s latest innovations in video recording are also evident in the Nikon Coolpix P950 camera. Video is recorded in 4K format at 30 frames per second, and in Full HD at 60 frames per second. An external microphone can also be connected to the camera for better audio recording.
As the lens is located behind the motorised zoom, it drains the batteries so quickly that we recommend Nikon EN-EL20a spare batteries for the camera.

Quite a lot of features for someone who isn’t used to it. The camera’s a bit heavy, but it’s still easy to carry around. Perhaps I’ll learn how to make the most of its features yet…
A good camera with a superzoom, but you can’t take aerial photos with it. So it falls short of the Sony Räksä… You can certainly take blurry photos from a distance, provided thermal distortion doesn’t ruin the shot… Good value for money.
It’s a handy size and, considering the sensor size, offers good image quality. It’s easy to use, as long as you take a moment to familiarise yourself with the controls. It’s a suitable camera for nature trips. I’ve had good results with landscape and wildlife photography. For me, at least, this is a good choice for my own purposes.
