The Samyang 16mm T2.6 ED AS UMC VDSLR is a compact, manual mount wide-angle lens designed for video photography with DSLR or mirrorless cameras. The lens covers the 35mm cinema sensor but works equally well with APS-C and micro four thirds (MFT) cameras. Thanks to its maximum aperture of T2.6, it can also be used in low light conditions, or when you want to limit the depth of field.

The Samyang 16mm T2.6 ED AS UMC VDSLR is much more compact and lighter than conventional cine lenses, but is still very suitable for video use. The serrated focus ring can be used with follow focus devices, and the ”click-free” aperture ring (also serrated, allows for smooth and silent aperture adjustment during shooting.

Minor distortions. The optical formula consists of 14 elements in eleven groups. Among the elements are 2 aspherist elements for maximum accuracy over the entire image area even at large apertures. Two of the elements are made of ED glass (Extra-low dispersion) and two are made of HR glass (High Refractive) and minimize optical defects such as chromatic aberrations. The distortions are quite negligible for an ultra-wide angle lens, only -1.86%. A multi-layer anti-reflection coating (UMC) keeps reflections in check and allows high contrast in the recorded material.

The lens acts as an ultra-wide angle of view in cinema size cameras (35mm format) while in APS-C/Super35 sensors it has a viewing angle equivalent to 24mm. In MFT cameras the equivalent viewing angle is 32mm.
