Sony a7r Mark II flagship model of mirrorless SLRs (now available as a new Sony a7r Mark III) includes a 42.4 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, built-in five-axis image stabilisation, 4K quality video recording, silent shooting mode, Fast Hybrid AF and many other features. The a7r II interchangeable lens camera features the world's first back-illuminated full cinema size Exmor R CMOSi sensor, delivering high resolution (approx. 42.4 effective megapixels), high sensitivity and ultra-fast autofocus, up to 40 % faster than the original α7R model thanks to its 399 step autofocus points. The camera also features a five-axis image stabilisation system familiar from the acclaimed α7 II model. The camera is also capable of capturing still images and 4K video in a variety of formats, including Super 35mm (without pixel 2 fusion) and full cinema size, a world first for digital cameras. In addition, the camera features an XGA OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder equipped with a high performance (0.78x) magnification.

The advanced image stabilisation solution compensates for camera shake through five axes during shooting. The stabilisation corrects for the angular vibration (rocking and panning) that easily occurs when using telephoto lenses, the wobble (X and Y axes) that is noticeable with increasing magnification, and the rotational movement (twisting) that often affects the video image. This camera's anti-vibration system is equivalent to shooting at a shutter speed 4.5 stops higher.
