The Tamron 28-200 mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is part of Tamron's long history as a manufacturer of compact megazooms, you could even say they invented the megazoom category. So it's no surprise that Tamron is introducing the world to the first mirrorless f/2.8 cinema size all-in-one zoom. Naturally the first for Sony's E bayonet.

This lens goes from wide-angle to telephoto in a snap, without any extra lens changes. In other words, it's ideal for the travelling individualist who encounters fast-moving situations, or when the photographer needs a small, lightweight and compact device. Despite its large aperture and long reach, the obiska is the same size as the popular Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD, and it is smaller than other megazooms on the market.

The dynamic response allows a wide range of shooting situations, from wide-angle shots to aerial landscapes, or close-ups and cropped framing in telephoto. The new 28-200mm not only goes the distance but also offers good macro capabilities. At 28mm wide end the closest focusing distance is 0.19m with a magnification of 1:3.1, at 200mm telephoto the closest focusing distance is 0.8m at 1:3.8 magnification. This allows you to capture stunning close-ups, and take advantage of the wide aperture bokeh capabilities.

The filter size of the lens is the familiar 67mm that has haunted Tamron's entire lineup of Sony lenses. This way you save money when, for example, you don't have to buy more than one polarizing filter.

Fast, accurate and quiet, the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is equipped with the popular RXD AF stepper motor, which is particularly well suited for mirrorless cameras. It is fast, accurate and extremely quiet, making it ideal for video applications. It also supports Sony's fast DMF (Direct Manual Focus) protocol and Eye AF.

Tamron has approached this project with the idea that there will be no compromise, at least in terms of image quality. Special elements are used, including 2 LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lens elements, which improve image quality in terms of chromatic aberrations and other distortions. The lens is weatherproof, with rubber gaskets, and a front element with a fluorine coating that repels water, grease, dirt and is easy to keep clean.
