This 17-50 mm lens is a very high quality standard zoom with a high aperture - 2.8 - that is the same throughout the focal length range. It belongs to Tamron's Super performance ( SP) class, which is characterised by very high optical and mechanical quality. The high aperture of this lens is ideal for low light conditions and professional composition. The result is images where the background is soft and the subject really stands out from the background. In addition to the unlimited possibilities offered by the lens, it's the quality of the images that comes first. The world's shortest focusing distance - just 27cm - was achieved by using three XR (Extra Refractive) glass elements in the front group and combining them with a new mechanical design that keeps the lens compact. The maximum magnification ratio - 1:4.5 - and a weight of only 430g are also world firsts*. Image aberrations are kept to an absolute minimum thanks to the aspherical lenses and LD (Low Dispersion) glass, as well as the special Internal Surface Coating. The result is high quality, extremely sharp and clear images. * within the same class and aperture - F/2.8 - Note that Di II lenses are made for use only with digital SLR cameras with an image sensor smaller than 24mm x 16mm. Di II lenses cannot be used with full-frame or 35mm SLR cameras, as the image circle does not cover the full-frame sensor, resulting in darkening of the edges of the image (i.e. vignetting is clearly visible).
