Lens caps and protective covers help to keep your lens free from dust, scratches and knocks. They are a small but important part of protecting your camera equipment in everyday use, whilst travelling and during storage.
It is advisable to keep the front and rear lens caps in place whenever the lens is not attached to the camera – this ensures that the internal optics and the bayonet mount remain protected from dust and moisture.
Protecting your lens whilst travelling
When travelling, it’s a good idea to use both lens caps and a padded protective bag to ensure the lens remains undamaged, even when packed in a suitcase.
