Halftone filters (GND)
Half-tone filters, or GND filters, help to balance the exposure of an image, for example between a bright sky and a darker foreground. They are particularly suitable for landscape photography and situations where the amount of light varies across different areas of the image.

Halftone filters (GND)
Half-colour filters, also known as GND filters, help to balance the exposure of an image, for example between a bright sky and a darker foreground. They are particularly suitable for landscape photography.
Of the soft and hard edge GND filters, the soft edge is suitable for an uneven horizon (e.g. mountains), whilst the hard edge works best with a straight horizon, such as in a seascape.
GND filter for sunset photography
At sunset, a GND filter prevents the sky from becoming overexposed whilst ensuring that the foreground is adequately exposed, thus keeping the whole image balanced.
