Description
Tamron has constantly tried to push the limits of optical performance, especially in the so-called megazooms. The 18-270mm PZD, currently on the market, has been Tamron's biggest success in both sales and tests. Extending the zoom range from 15x to 18.8x, without compromising image quality, is of course a big challenge.
Image quality and optical design
To meet image quality requirements, the lens consists of 16 lens elements in 12 groups, including three aspherical lenses, one aspherical hybrid lens, two LD (Low Dispersion) lenses, one XR (Extra Refractive) lens and one UXR (Ultra Refractive) lens. In addition, the lenses are treated with an advanced anti-reflective coating.
APS-C
Di II in the brand name means that this lens is specifically designed for APS-C cameras. The angle of view of the lens corresponds to a zoom range of 24.8mm to 465mm in cinema format.
Closest focusing distance
Throughout the zoom range, the closest focusing distance is 39 cm, making the lens suitable for macro photography. The magnification ratio at 300mm focal length is 1:2.9.
PZD, VC & weather protection
The fast and quiet PZD (Piezoelectric) autofocus, combined with optical image stabilisation and weather protection, make it an even more versatile megazoom lens than its predecessors.
