The Sony FX5 is a full-frame cinema camera body from the Cinema Line range, positioned between heavy-duty production cameras and the smaller FX models. It is suitable for demanding video production, content creation, advertising and production companies, and as a B-camera for larger productions.

Internal RAW recording without an external storage device

For the first time in the FX series, X-OCN video can be recorded directly to a memory card. 16-bit RAW recording utilises the X-OCN LT, C1 and C2 codecs familiar from the VENICE and Burano cameras, and these recording formats require a CFexpress Type A VGP400 memory card.

Open Gate and more extensive cropping options

The 5K Open Gate 3:2 mode captures a wider field of view, which is useful both for cropping to different aspect ratios and when using anamorphic lenses. The camera also features de-squeeze settings and in-camera preview.

Focus, stability and monitoring for production use

Autofocus, powered by BIONZ XR2 and a dedicated AI processor, recognises subjects and anticipates movement. Alongside the IBIS sensor-shift stabiliser is an electronic Active Mode, and tools for assessing exposure and focus include false colour, waveform, vector and focus map displays.
