Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7″ 12G-SDI/HDMI HDR is an external recorder with an ultra-bright 2500 cd/m² 1920×1080 resolution screen. It makes cropping and focusing easy, even outdoors. With faster 12G-SDI and HDMI, you can record footage from the latest cine cameras without forgetting consumer camcorders. You can monitor and record HDR video at DCI 4K, UHD 4K, 2K or HD resolution in 10-bit 4:2:2 mode with up to 16 surround 24-bit 48kHz audio channels. For audio, the unit features separate mini-XLR connectors with 48V phantom power. Video is recorded in industry standard Apple ProRess (HQ, 422, LT, or Proxy) or Avid DNxHD and DNxHR codecs.

Video Assist stores stuff on two SDHC/XC cards UHS-II SD in two slots. You can also use the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port if you want to record to an external hard drive. The port also allows you to stream, configure and update the display.

The device accurately monitors log gamma material without the need to watch a bland preview or use a LUT profile. The monitor directly supports the most popular log formats. The settings only affect the viewing, the logged material itself remains intact.

The device is powered by a single L series battery. A mains power converter is included. Other nifty features include on-screen exposure analysis, various cropping options, and focus assist tools.

A separate 2,5mm lanc connector is also available on the body.

User interface. The screen has intuitive capacitive touch controls. Swipe gestures make it simple to use and quickly bring up the settings you need. You can access additional controls, recording status, histogram, waveform, vectorscope and battery status among others. The controls have a translucent overlay so you can observe your shots at the same time.

12-G SDI and HDMI. Video and audio is transferred from the camera via 12-G SDI or HDMI 1.4. This means that you can use the latest cine cameras in the future. 12-G SDI allows you to run Ultra HD footage. Through the throughput outputs you can distribute video directly to larger displays. The output carries up to 8 audio channels. Audio can also be monitored via the 3.5mm output with headphones.

In the light of day a working screen. The video Assist TFT LCD screen delivers a dazzling 2500 cd/m² of light output with LED backlighting, so you can shoot in daylight even without sun protection.
