Description
This standard wide-angle lens is a true modern classic. A favourite of photojournalists in particular, it features high quality optics, gives a natural angle of view and works brilliantly in low light.
- Wide-angle view and natural angle of view
The classic, slightly wide-angle 35mm focal length is particularly popular with photojournalists, as it can capture the subject in its surroundings without distorting the angle of view. - Excellent low-light performance
The high f/1.4 aperture lens lets in two stops more light than the f/2.8 zoom lens, making it ideal for handheld photography in low light. When shooting at wide apertures, it's easy to narrow the field of view. Using a narrow depth of field is a good way to make your subject stand out from the background. It is particularly effective when combined with the lens' wide-angle field of view. The lens' nine-blade dimming aperture softens out-of-focus areas naturally. - First-class image quality
The blue spectrum refractive optics are made from an organic optical material developed by Canon. It prevents colour distortion by correcting colour aberration much more accurately than previous technologies. UD (Ultra Low-Dispersion) optics and two aspherical elements ensure incredible sharpness across the entire field of view - even when the lens is at maximum aperture. Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC) enhances contrast and helps reduce ghosting and reflections when shooting backlit. - Fast and unobtrusive focus - forever capture unexpected moments
The ring-type USM autofocus works very quickly and almost silently, so you can shoot without disturbing your subject. Manual focus is also available all the time, so you can adjust the focus at any time without changing focus mode and without putting the camera away from your face. - Shoots even in demanding conditions
The quality construction of Canon's legendary L series ensures reliability and durability. Weather protection keeps dust and moisture at bay. A fluorine coating protects the front and rear elements of the lens from grease and dirt, making it easy to clean. - Blue spectrum refractive optics
The Blue Spectrum Refractive (BR) optics developed by Canon prevents colour distortion when shooting with large diameter lenses. The organic optical material developed by Canon is more effective at correcting colour distortion than other technologies such as fluorite, Ultra Low-Dispersion (UD) or Super UD glass. Colour distortion is caused by colour aberration, the phenomenon whereby light of different colours is focused at different points. The optical BR material used in the EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens minimises this effect. The other elements of the lens can then be used to create the best possible sharpness and contrast in images and to effectively prevent reflections.
