Celestron StarSense Explorer 114mm Dobsonian telescope
The StarSense Explorer is a tabletop Dobsonian telescope that uses your smartphone to analyse the night sky and calculate the telescope’s alignment in real time. The app’s instructions and clear user interface make it an excellent first telescope for beginners, and no previous observing experience is required. Your smartphone will guide you to your destination
Place your phone in the StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. Once the phone is aligned with the telescope’s optics, the app will generate a list of currently visible objects and guide you to your chosen object using the arrows on the screen. When the crosshair turns green, the object will be visible through the eyepiece. The patented LISA algorithm compares the detected star patterns against a database, so positioning is not based solely on the phone’s gyroscopes and accelerometers.
Table base with smooth movement
The alt-azimuth table mount moves smoothly in both directions thanks to its Teflon bearings, and you can adjust the tension of the height axis using the height brake. The low stand makes it particularly easy for children to reach the eyepiece, and it can be raised onto a table or a car bonnet to a comfortable viewing height. The carrying handles make it easy to move to the observation site.
From planets to deep-sky objects
The 114 mm parabolic primary mirror reveals Jupiter’s Galilean moons, cloud bands and the Great Red Spot, Saturn’s rings, as well as the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades. Even in the city, you can spot the brightest planets, star clusters, double stars and the Andromeda Galaxy, whilst under darker skies, hundreds more objects become visible.
