DJI RS 3 Pro - stability for heavier equipment
DJI RS 3 Pro is a slightly more rugged version RS 3 -gimbal. Extended and durable carbon fibre arms give more leeway for balancing professional cameras. The gimbal itself weighs only 1.5 kg, but can carry a load of up to 4.5 kg.
The RS 3 Pro carries well, for example:
- Canon C70 -camera CN-E 35mm T1.5 -with lens
- Sony FX6 -camera 24-70mm f/2.8 -with lens
- Nikon Z9 -camera 24-70mm f/2.8 -with lens
- BMPCC 6k Pro -camera EF 85mm f/1.2 -with lens
- Panasonic Lumix S1H -camera L 24-70mm f/2.8 -with lens
- RED Komodo -camera RF 24-70mm f/2.8 -with lens
You can also check the exact compatibility on a camera-by-camera basis. here.
The RS 3 Pro gimbal is designed primarily with speed in mind. The new extended quick-release plate makes attaching the camera to the gimbal safe and easy. The new fine adjustment screw allows you to balance the camera in exactly the right position, as it can be moved forward or backward with millimetre precision. In addition, the Teflon® coated construction reduces friction, so even heavier cameras can be mounted on the gimbal with ease.
Moving around with the gimbal is made very easy. Automatic locks provide a quick way to change the stabilizer to the transport position. With a press of the power button, the gimbal locks the shafts and folds into the rest position in seconds. When you're ready to resume shooting, press the power button again and the gimbal opens to shooting mode again in seconds.
The Dual-Mode Bluetooth feature, which enables wireless camera control, also adds to the speed of gimbal use. By connecting to Compatible with with a Bluetooth connection between the camera and the gimbal, the gimbal menu and switches allow you to quickly adjust the main camera settings and start recording. In addition, the gimbal automatically connects Bluetooth to previously used cameras.
DJI's third-generation RS stabilization algorithm provides even better balancing for all different shooting situations. According to DJI's own lab data, RS 3 offers as much as 20% more stability compared to RSC 2. If you're using the gimbal in extreme conditions where the gimbal's basic stability doesn't seem to be enough, don't worry; DJI has a solution for that too. The RS 3 also includes SuperSmooth mode, which further increases the torque of the stabilisation motors. SuperSmooth mode can be particularly useful when shooting fast-moving subjects or using focal lengths of over 100mm.
The RS3 gimbal has a built-in 1.8″ OLED touchscreen for easy menu navigation. Compared to the RS 2's screen, the RS 3 Pro offers a 20% larger and more colourful screen, which undoubtedly makes it easier to use. A slide switch on the side of the camera allows you to quickly select different stabilisation modes. A handy dial offers adjustment of zoom, focus, shutter speed, aperture, ISO or gimbal movement in a nimble manner.
Of course, the gimbal also offers smart shooting modes such as Motionlapse, Track, Dolly Zoom, Time Tunnel and Panorama. They'll ensure that even your most creative shooting ideas won't be limited by the equipment.
A separately purchased DJI LiDAR unit will give the RS3 Pro gimbal the focusing technology familiar from the Ronin 4D. This is particularly useful in situations where the gimbal camera or lens does not include autofocus. In addition, LiDAR is practically superior to conventional camera autofocus systems.
The new DJI Video Transmitter system (available from September 2022), which can be purchased separately, further diversifies the gimbal's capabilities. The system's wireless transmitter can be conveniently attached to the base of the gimbal, without the need for a separate power supply. With DJI's O3 Pro video transmission system, the gimbal's camera can be monitored from up to 6km away.
