Thanks to this density of 1.8, you can take photographs with a wider aperture or at a slower shutter speed than would normally be required. This makes it easier to control depth of field and capture motion.

ND filters are also useful when the contrast between highlights and shadows is too high to achieve a good exposure.

The ND64 6-stop ND filter is generally used during the golden hour to create 1–2-minute exposures of soft water or clouds. A 6-stop filter is also excellent for photographing dynamic water scenes, whilst retaining some texture before the golden hour.

This filter can simultaneously help to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarised as a result of reflection from a non-metallic surface. Sunlight becomes naturally polarised as it reflects off molecules in the atmosphere, causing the light to scatter and appear hazy. A polarising filter aligns and filters this linearly polarised light perpendicular to the reflected light, allowing a large proportion of this light to be absorbed. This results in a significant reduction in reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces, as well as an increase in the richness of the sky and foliage.

NiSi ND filters do not affect the colour of the image; they reproduce true-to-life colours and are made from high-quality optical glass (not resin) with a nano-coating, ensuring that no detail is lost.

When using a neutral density filter, the camera is vulnerable to infrared light, which introduces an unwanted red tint to images when shooting with a small aperture. NiSi ND filters feature an infrared-blocking coating that blocks infrared light passing through the lens and restores natural, true-to-life colours.
