The new adjustable grey filter True Color ND- Vario from NIS continues in the footsteps of its predecessor (NiSi Pro Nano 1.5-5 Stop Enhance ND-VARIO). The new version has extended adjustability from a minimum of 1.5 stops to one stop, improved colour rendering characteristics and a more user-friendly product. The new filter features numbered stop points on the side of the filter instead of the old dot marking. This makes it easier to find camera settings. In addition to these improved features, the new version comes with its own branded housing instead of the old plastic one, as well as its own lens cover designed for the product. Filters are coated NiS with high quality NANO coating, which repels dirt and moisture and provides a very neutral colour fastness. The frames are made as small as possible to avoid distortion. However, slight distortion may occur at extreme wide angles, although this applies to all filters. The filter adjustment knob is removable, so adjustment is made by turning the filter ring

Use of a continuously variable grey filter

This filter basically replaces several filters with one. You can adjust the amount of transmitted light by rotating the filter with a rotary polarizer. The adjustable grey filter consists of two CPL filters on top of each other.

The most common uses of such filters are video recording. In video, you often need to set the shutter speed to 1/50, for example, and if you don't want to dim the aperture all the way down, you often need a gray filter in front. An adjustable ND makes it easy to adjust the desired amount of light quickly and conveniently. NiSi Pro Nano 1.5-5 Stop Enhance ND-VARIO filters are deliberately moderately adjustable. There are plenty of ND3-1000 filters on the market, these filters are pretty much unusable anywhere near either extreme. Similarly, the colour gamut is often heavily skewed and a fair amount of post-processing is required. NiSi has aimed for as neutral a colour scheme as possible in its filters, which is a very desirable feature, especially in video.
