Advanced optical design

• Six "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) elements, two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and five aspherical elements significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and colour distortion throughout the zoom range, improving image clarity and colour accuracy. In addition, improved control of sagittal coma flare produces high resolution throughout the image frame.
• The five aspherical elements not only improve optical performance, but also make the lens compact thanks to its slim, highly polarised structure.
• A bright, f/2.8 aperture and a rounded 11-blade dimmer produce a big, beautiful bokeh effect.
• Super multi-layer and nano-coatings reduce lens flare and ghosting and produce high-contrast, colour-neutral images, even in backlit conditions.
• The lens is also designed to prevent focus breathing when the angle of view changes in the zoom range, creating natural-looking focus movements in video.

Focus faster, focus closer

The redesigned HLA autofocus motor improves speed by up to three times compared to the previous model. In addition, the closest focusing distance is only 17cm, offering a maximum magnification of 1:2.7, making the lens ideal for close-up photography.

Built strong and compact

• While maintaining the same number of lens elements, the overall length has been shortened to 12.2cm and the weight has been reduced to 735grams
• The opening ring includes both click and lock switches to enhance the user experience.
• The robust internal construction includes metal parts for zoom expansion, while the outer surface is protected by rubber seals against dust and moisture.
• Two integrated AF-L buttons can be programmed to adjust different shooting settings, and the lens also features an AF/MF switch and a zoom lock switch to prevent the lens from accidentally expanding.
