Equally at home as a photography lens as a video lens, the 50-150mm f/2 GM has a number of useful features to promote its hybrid use:

• Four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors deliver fast and responsive AF performance that's as quiet as it is smooth. The focus system is compatible with continuous shooting speeds up to 120 fps or high-speed video recording up to 240 fps.
• The built-in focusing system allows you to focus at lightning speeds and maintains the length of the lens during use.
• The built-in zoom maintains the overall length of the lens during operation and keeps a constant centre of gravity for easier use on a gimbal or tripod.
• Focus breathing is significantly reduced optically and the lens supports Breathing Compensation on selected cameras to effectively eliminate changes in perspective during zooming.
• The manual aperture ring can be disabled from clicking for smooth, quiet shifting and the zoom smoothness can also be adjusted from being smooth or tight for more precise handling.
• The lens weighs around 1.34 kg, but most of this weight is behind the lens to promote a balanced design that promotes comfortable hand-held shooting.
