Description
Tamron 35-100mm F/2.8 Di III VXD - a compact and luminous portrait zoom
The Tamron 35-100mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A078) is designed to meet the needs of users: a smaller, lighter and truly portable portrait zoom. Where the 35-150mm F/2-2.8 garnered huge praise, many were looking for a more compact option - and this lens does just that.
This 35-100mm F/2.8 zoom combines the most popular portrait focal lengths (35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 100mm) in one lightweight body. The result is a highly mobile, sharp and luminous lens that is perfect for portraiture, travel photography and everyday documentation.
Overwhelmingly compact and lightweight - goes everywhere with you
At just 119.2 mm long and weighing 565 g (Sony E), it's a truly palm-sized F2.8 zoom.
The limited 100 mm telephoto lens allows for a compact design, but with the camera's crop function you can get up to an angle of view of around 150 mm. During zooming, the centre of gravity remains stable, making it excellent for gimbal shooting too.
35-100mm - the perfect portrait range
- 35mm - environmental portraits
- 50mm - natural perspective
- 85mm - classic potrette firing range
- 100mm - a compact look and beautiful background separation
Covers the area from half-length to mid-telephoto, so you can get both wider shots that use the background and tight headshots with a single lens.
High resolution and beautiful f/2.8 bokeh
The optical design includes:
- 15 elements in 13 groups
- 1 × XLD element
- 2 × LD elements
- 3 × GM (aspherical) elements
Aberrations, such as chromatic aberration, are effectively controlled throughout the zoom range. The BBAR-G2 coating reduces reflections and ghosting, even in backlighting.
Combined with the F2.8 aperture, the result is sharp outlines and naturally smooth bokeh - especially when it comes to reproducing skin tones and textures.
Fast and accurate VXD autofocus
TAMRON's VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor offers:
- Fast and accurate focus
- Excellent follow-up
- Video of silent action
Great for capturing children, pets and moving subjects in both still and video.
Close-up 0,22 m - creativity also indoors
The minimum focusing distance at 35mm is only 0.22 m (magnification ratio 1:3.3).
Perfect for café, product and interior photography where you want to combine a close-up subject with a soft background.
Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility
The lens can be adjusted with the TAMRON Lens Utility (PC and mobile).
You can configure the functions of the Focus Set button and the Custom switch, and update the firmware via the PC version.

The best alternative to the traditional 24-70mm F2.8. Personally, I appreciate the extra 30mm at the top end more than the missing 11mm at the bottom end. The image quality is also very close to native lenses.
