How do I choose the right size frame?

The size of the frame is specified by the picture opening; in other words, a 30×40 frame is suitable for a 30 x 40 cm picture or poster. If you want a passe-partout around your picture, choose a frame that is larger than the picture itself; for example, for a 20×30 picture, use a 30×40 frame and a 30×40 passe-partout with a 20×30 opening. The most common photo sizes are 10×15, 13×18, 20×30 and A4 (21 x 29.7 cm). Posters are usually 30×40, 50×70 or 70×100.
