Description

Fujifilm X-T5 Black - New sensor and more power

Fuji's camera line-up is finally starting to make a clear distinction, with the X-T5 being almost purely for the active amateur photographer, X-H2 a professional stylist and an excellent hybrid camera, and X-H2S again the perfect video camera and an extremely fast sports and nature photographer's tool. The X-T5 is a wonderful jigsaw puzzle with the curved screen of the Fuji X-T3, the battery and viewfinder of the X-T4 and the processor and sensor from the X-H2. The camera is batch sized and the fresh 40MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR BSI sensor produces distortion-free images. The size is comparable to the X-T1 and lighter than its predecessor, the X-T4. The classic design is topped off with retro-inspired physical dials that will naturally divide opinion but for those who like it, this is a must-have. Seven stop image stabilisation, Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode that produces 160 megapixel files and a shutter speed of a staggering 1/180000. The X-T5 is a decent video processor too, up to 6.2K 4:2:” 10-bit internally or 12-bit ProRes RAW/BlackMagic RAW via HDMI.

There's no lack of speed and you can whip up to 15 frames per second with a mechanical shutter or 20 with an electronic one.

The large OLED viewfinder is equipped with 3.69 million dots. The 0.8 X magnification makes viewing the image comfortable.

Compact camera body with proper controls

The processing has also been improved. For example, the four-way buttons on the rear have been raised and a special joystick control has been added to make it easier to adjust the active AF point. The classic shutter speed and sensitivity dials have also been raised and fitted with a lock button that can be switched on/off with just one press. The three-inch screen can be tilted in three directions; up and down when shooting horizontally and up when the camera is turned vertically. Two memory card slots. Both have support for SD cards in the UHS-II capacity class. Wireless image transfer is possible via the camera's built-in Wi-Fi. It can also be used to control the X-T5 from a smartphone/tablet via the FUJIFILM Camera Remote app.

Add to this FUJIFILM's wide range of accessories - well over 20 lenses from ultra-wide angle to super wide angle, four flashes and two different grips, and there are few subjects or situations that are too difficult for the new FUJIFILM X-T5.

  1. A lot of good in a compact package. The right size for both large and small lenses. The design suits my taste. Especially the physical controls for shutter speed and sensitivity are hard to beat (and the traditional aperture control ring on lenses). A slight minus is that no charger is included - charging batteries inside the camera is impractical (fortunately, a charger can be purchased separately).
