Nikon Coolpix P1000 – To the Moon and Back

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 really makes an impression. Some people drive BMWs; others have a really big lens. A 3000mm 35mm equivalent at the long end is impressive to say the least, but on top of that you can zoom in even further digitally. This takes you up to a staggering 12,000mm 35mm equivalent (although image quality does start to suffer at that point). The Nikon Coolpix P1000’s extreme reach is supported by Nikon’s Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction, which provides 5-stop image stabilisation, ensuring your photos are sharper than they would be without it.

• The 125x optical zoom with Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction keeps this absurd 24–3000mm cinema-equivalent lens remarkably steady.
• The Nikon Coolpix P1000 features a bright LCD screen measuring a comfortable 3.2 inches. A 0.39-inch, 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder is included for more traditional photography.
• With built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Nikon’s SnapBridge technology lets you easily transfer your photos wirelessly to your mobile phone, for example.
• The ML-L7 remote control, which must be purchased separately, can be used to adjust the ISO, zoom and aperture wirelessly, and of course to trigger the P1000 camera. This allows photographers using a tripod to take very precise shots.
• The EN-EL20a battery achieved 250 shots per charge in CIPA standard testing. Charging takes 3 hours.
