Sirui W-2204 carbon fibre tripod
The Sirui W-2204 is a weather-resistant tripod designed for mirrorless cameras, SLR cameras and boating. Its waterproof legs, high load capacity and adaptable design make it ideal for photography in varying conditions and on uneven terrain.
Weather-resistant construction for outdoor use
The waterproof feet protect the stand from water damage. The ergonomic angle-adjustment locks on the feet are designed to be operated even with wet hands or whilst wearing gloves.
Three-legged and one-legged in the same system
One of the legs can be detached and used as a watertight single leg. The centre tube can be attached to the single leg when a greater working height is required.
Adaptable positioning in the terrain
The legs swivel through 180° for transport, and three different leg angles make it easier to set up on uneven ground. The two-part centre tube allows you to use either the long or short tube, as required.

I needed a tripod that would cover as much of the range of uses as I could imagine, but at the same time be light enough to carry with me when I needed it. I think this tripod does that really well. It's the wrong choice if lightness is your main criterion. On the other hand, if you want the lightest possible without compromising on features and sturdiness, this is a good choice. Compared to my previous tripod, it is a kilo lighter and when assembled it fits into a smaller space, and carrying the tripod around no longer feels like such a chore, which as such makes the upgrade worthwhile. Both my old tripod and this tripod, both get the same height above the head. If you don't use a centre tube the stability is excellent with the camera at a convenient eye level, if your own height is around 180cm. Using a centre tube is always a compromise regardless of the tripod. In addition to the significant weight reduction in the upgrade, I also got a lot of new features such as use as a monopod when needed, faster setup and teardown, weather protection and so on. This model is also particularly interesting because it has waterproof locks. I am not aware of any other manufacturer making similar ones in this price range. Other options cost at least three times more. The footing is of very high quality. Its usability is in a whole different class compared to the previous one. It is much quicker to set up and put back together. The price/performance ratio is also very good. When buying the tripod, I was wondering which ball head would be more suitable, the K-30x or the K-20x model. I suspected that when assembled the K-30x would not fit between the legs of the stand without pushing them out a little, so when assembled it would not fit in as small a space. However, the ball head is only really a little bit too big, and there is no significant drawback. In fact, the stand is clearly designed to be used with both. The stand came with two ball head mounting plates. One is the same size as the K-20x model and the other is the same size as the K-30x model, although the difference in mounting plate size is really just cosmetic. The ball head is very sturdy. I chose it because I will be shooting timelapse videos, where sturdiness is very important. Otherwise a notch smaller model would probably be quite adequate for all other basic use.
