Description
Sony A9 III - System camera of the future
Sony has launched the world's first full cell global shutter mirrorless system camera, Sony a9 III. The use of the global shutter offers a shocking leap in performance compared to the decades-old shutter technology. The global shutter allows near-instantaneous and simultaneous reading of all 24.6 MP pixels, eliminating distortion and other problems that plagued traditional shutters, and the slow reading speed of the electronic ”shutter”. It also outperforms mechanical shutter technology in all areas, making the physical shutter unnecessary on the a9 III.
A global shutter helps ensure even exposure across the entire image in all lighting conditions. Flash sync is possible at any shutter speed, up to a maximum of 1/80,000 seconds. Simultaneous reading also prevents banding from certain light sources such as fluorescent lamps. Indoors, outdoors or in mixed artificial lighting, the a9 III can handle the task with ease.
In addition to the key technologies provided by the sensor, the a9 III offers new features that unlock the camera's full potential.
Pre-Capture & Speed Boost - Tools for birdwatchers
a9 III can be set to record images in the buffer when the shutter release button is pressed halfway. Users can set this between 0.05 and 1.0 seconds. By setting the shutter release, these images are stored on the memory card. This feature has long been on Olympus/OM cameras and is an excellent tool for birdwatchers
Speed button: not all shooting sessions require the maximum speed of the a9 III, 120 frames per second. With Speed Boost and the C5 button, conveniently located on the front of the camera for right-hand grip, users can switch their camera from the standard continuous shooting frame rate to a faster 120fps to ensure the next shot is just right.
Video image
The new shutter technology completely eliminates the rolling shutter effect, as well as interference from light. The A9 III also offers other outstanding video features in addition to these
- The A9 III captures and downsamples the full 6K image surface to produce high-quality UHD 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. It can also record 4K at up to 120 frames per second without cropping.
- The 10-bit 4:2:2 internal All-I offers the best quality.
- 16-bit raw video via HDMI to a compatible external recorder.
- S-Log3, S-Cinetone and other image adjustments.
Ergonomics
As with almost all new Sony products, the body has received some updates and improvements, including:
- New programmable C5 button on the front of the camera.
- The continuous shooting mode control dial can now be disabled and the shooting speed can be adjusted in the menu.
- Improved grip and the shutter release button has been moved, providing a slightly more ergonomic grip.
- Two CFexpress Type A/SD card slots
- USB-C port now offers faster USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds up to 10 Gb/s
- 3.2-inch 2.1M-dot 4-axis rotating touchscreen LCD (Same as A7R V)
- 9.44M-point 0.90x OLED electronic viewfinder with a maximum update rate of 240 frames per second
- Ethernet port for advanced networking and data transfer.
- The new VG-C5EM battery grip is designed to match the updated ergonomics of the a9 III, including the new C5 button.
