Description
Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS - APS-C filmmakers' main obiska
The Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS lens is probably the most important glass you'll buy if you're shooting with an APS-C Sony. The lens is surprisingly compact considering its capabilities, but most importantly it is perhaps the most versatile piece of equipment in the entire Sony repertoire (there is a dedicated Sony 28-135mm obiska).
With a wide focal length range and a continuous maximum aperture of f/4, the lens can handle almost any shoot you can throw at it. Sony's Smooth Motion Optics make the focus breathing phenomenon almost non-existent.
The lens has separate focus, zoom and aperture controls, and operation is truly manual when required. You simply pull the focus ring back and the focus becomes fully manual. The focus ring itself is equipped with a cinema-standard MOD 0.8 cog. The zoom ringlet is mechanically directly in the lens package so that flashy zooms are possible without delay (crash zoom). The aperture can be adjusted automatically or manually from the zoom ring. The click can be switched off if you want to adjust the aperture continuously.
With smaller, less rigid cameras, it's a good idea to use a tripod support, so that the stress doesn't come over the stiff body. By the way, the filter size is a crisp 95mm, not a small opening.
The Sony E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS offers everything in one package. With a fast aperture and a truly versatile focal length, a motorised zoom with image stabilisation, what more do you need. Well, it may not be the most powerful lens in the world, but with its motorised zoom and built-in image stabilizer, it's a lens for videographers. You get smooth zooms and the image stabilizer helps with run ’n gun style shots, bringing a professional feel to the shot. The zoom is also very quiet and doesn't transmit to the microphone. Naturally, despite its good video qualities, the glass doesn't turn out badly in stills, and works great as a general purpose lens, especially for travel.
In line with the G series, a lot of attention has been paid to the optical design. Image quality is, thanks to special elements, colour saturated and contrasty throughout the focal range. The 7-blade dimmer produces a pleasing bokeh, especially at telephoto.
