Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro Apo, works wonders. With a maximum magnification of double, it's still capable of infinite focus, and it's APO chromatic to boot. So what does all this mean?
The lens offers unique possibilities to capture things from 24.7 centimetres at double magnification, and distant things at 0.1 magnification. The lens is a surprisingly flexible tool despite the manual focus and manual aperture control. You don't need extension tubes or other adapters when shooting miniature subjects or even whole people. The Venus Optics Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO lens is optimized for 35mm format sensors, but it also works with APS-C sensors.
The construction of the lens is pleasant and of high quality. The manual focus is built to be very precise and you can focus from 24.7 centimetres to infinity. Laowa provides a UV filter.
The APO letter combination in the name of the lens indicates that the glass is ”apochromatic”, i.e. there should be no chromatic aberrations in the sharp and unsharp areas.

A high-quality objetive. Very sharp drawing from corner to corner even at full aperture. Colour aberrations have been corrected perfectly, at least according to my own observation. The only minuses are lens flare, especially on a sunny day when shooting oblique from the sun, and the short rotation of the lens focus ring, which makes focusing difficult when the subject is beyond the macro distance. This FE version of the lens also does not electronically tell the camera aperture information etc. All in all, I am very happy with the lens.
