Which microSD card for which device?

The most important selection criterion is the card’s writing speed. If the card is too slow, video recording may be interrupted whilst filming. Manufacturers usually specify the minimum requirement as a speed class (V30, U3).

• Action cameras and 4K video – at least V30 / U3. For example, the DJI Osmo Action and Insta360 Ace Pro cameras.
• Drones – at least V30 / U3, such as the DJI Mini 5 Pro. Larger 4K120 recordings benefit from a faster card.
• 360-degree cameras and 8K video – at least V30, preferably a fast UHS-I or UHS-II card with sufficient storage capacity, as 8K video takes up a lot of storage space.
• Mobile phones and tablets – A1 or A2The -marking ensures that apps run smoothly from the card.

How much storage space do you need?

4K video typically takes up between a few gigabytes and over ten gigabytes per minute, depending on the shooting mode, whilst 8K video takes up even more. For action cameras and drones 128–256 Gt This is a suitable size for most people. For long journeys, it’s a good idea to take two cards rather than one large one – that way, if one goes missing or gets damaged, you won’t lose all your photos.

A brief guide to the markings

• SDHC / SDXC – SDHC cards range from 4 to 32 GB, whilst SDXC cards range from 64 GB to 2 TB.
• U3, V30, V60, V90 – Guaranteed minimum write speed of the card: U3 and V30 = 30 MB/s, V60 = 60 MB/s, V90 = 90 MB/s.
• UHS-I / UHS-II – the bus speed, which determines the card’s maximum speed. UHS-II cards are faster if the device supports them.
• A1 / A2 – app performance on mobile phones and tablets.
