Film camera It brings a sense of calm and excitement to photography: every shot is carefully considered, and you only see the results once the film has been developed. The second-hand film cameras in our range have been inspected and come with a minimum 90-day warranty and a 30-day return policy. Our stock changes constantly, so it’s worth checking back often. If you want your photos straight away, have a look at Polaroid cameras.
What should you check when buying a second-hand film camera?
Closed – Does the shutter work at all exposure times, and do long and short exposure times sound different?.
Exposure meter – On many cameras, the meter requires a battery. Check that the meter is working and displaying reasonable readings.
Light-tightness – The seals on old cameras can become brittle, causing light leaks onto the film.
Lens – lens clarity, mould and smooth focusing.
We check every film camera we sell before it goes on sale: we listen to the shutter operating at different exposure times, test the light meter and visually inspect the condition of the lens and seals. The warranty and right of return also give you time to test the camera with your own film.
A system camera or a compact camera?
A film-based system camera, such as a Nikon or Canon EOS, offers interchangeable lenses and full manual control. Often, the same lenses can also be used with modern mirrorless cameras via an adapter. A film compact camera is small and easy to carry, and is well suited to everyday and travel photography.
